Couples in Boating Class


The Central Florida Sail & Power Squadron will offer the Partners in Command seminar (a.k.a. Boating for Couples) Saturday, February 17, 2018, from 9 am –3 pm at Marine Max, 455 S Lake Destiny Dr, Orlando, FL 32810.  


This single-day seminar is designed for couples who operate a boat as a team. It provides a humorous and practical guide to captain/crew management on today’s pleasure craft. Designed for boaters and crew members with little or basic boating knowledge, it provides essential in-formation to assist the skipper in the proper operation of a recreational boat  including handling emergencies. Captains learn crew/passenger management skills, how to delegate duties and communicate effectively. First Mates learn how to anticipate commands, boat handling protocols and practices including boating terms and basic knot tying. 


You’ll learn the why’s and how to’s of effective team boating including how to effectively communicate between Captain and crew (without yelling); avoiding the “blame game,” VHF marine radio use, docking, anchoring, boat ramp protocols and procedures; “emergency landings”; boat prep; safety issues; equipment required and

equipment recommended; first aid; fire extinguisher demonstrations; tool kits; signaling devices; starting, running and stopping engines; calling for help; maneuvering; “where am I?” and more.


Cost including lunch is $59 for USPS members, $74 for non-USPS members. Registration is required, either by emailing SEO@CFLSPS.com or calling 407 831-9547.
