Boating Tips: Dock Maintenance
There are simply no two ways about it, water and wood don’t mix. A great way around this is to simply not use wood! That’s right, nowadays you can use synthetic materials rather than natural wood which will hold up better against saltwater.
Wrap Your Pilings
Plastic sleeves or wraps can be applied around pilings. This will go a long way to keeping your dock in good shape. These wraps may still see oyster and barnacle growth on them, but they will help prevent damage to the actual dock itself.
Be Mindful of your Lift
We’ve mainly been focused on the wood and overall construction of your dock, but don’t forget the boat lift itself! Be sure that you keep all moving parts properly lubed as needed and have a reliable lift itself!
