MarineMax Takes Top Spot at Big Dog Fat Cat Tournament
OLDSMAR, FL (June 30, 2025)— Teams from MarineMax Jupiter, MarineMax Pompano, and Aquila Power Catamarans took home the grand prize at the Big Dog Fat Cat Fishing Tournament, held June 21 at Sailfish Marina in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Competing against more than 200 boats, the group fished aboard the Aquila 47 Molokai, a performance offshore catamaran designed for serious anglers. The crew included Matt Cappiello, General Manager of MarineMax Pompano; Nick Pavlakis, Business Manager at MarineMax Jupiter; Jack Thompson, Jupiter Service Manager; and Nick Harvey, Chief Revenue Officer of Aquila.
The tournament benefited the A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue. This organization fights to save surrendered and abandoned pets in the local community from being euthanized. At the event, nine puppies were adopted, and the organization successfully raised money through this year’s tournament, thanks to a silent auction, raffle items, and tournament buckets.
The Aquila 47 Molokai delivered on every front. Its twin stepped hulls sliced through the chop with stability and speed, while the expansive deck layout gave the ten-person team the space and functionality needed for competitive fishing. Outfitted just days before the tournament, the boat quickly proved its capability in a high-pressure, high-performance environment.
“Wow, what a day! We are still processing exactly what happened,” said Nick Pavlakis, MarineMax Jupiter, Business Manager. “With just a week’s notice, we got a boat completely tournament-ready, assembled a crew of ten who had never fished together before, and took home the win.”
