Welcome to Boating Tips with MarineMax! Captain Nick is breaking down the best boats for those just starting their boating journey. Ask your questions, make comments, and learn a thing or two about your new favorite outdoor activity.
If you’re just starting your boating journey, you may feel overwhelmed. Boats come in all different shapes, sizes and configurations - how do you know which one is right for you? Captain Nick breaks down the best beginner boats, it’s easier than you think!
What to Look For
For beginners, we recommend something straightforward - basically a “turn the key and go boat”. Examples of these types of vessels include small center consoles and bowriders in the 17-19 foot range.
What's Included
These boats typically don’t have complex electronics and usually only have a single outboard engine. The more features a boat has, the greater the cost and systems to be maintained. These simple, beginner boats are purpose built with one goal, to get you out on the water.
Other Characteristics
Another reason that a boat that fits the above characteristics is a great beginner boat is because they are relatively inexpensive. As you advance through your boating journey, you may add electronics, additional motors or just buy a larger boat with a specific goal in mind such as fishing or watersports.
