Market Update
The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) reported that new powerboat registrations were up 4.4% through November 2018 on a rolling 12-month year-over-year basis. Registrations for all powerboat segments were up but tow boats led the growth with 10.3%. The NMMA also recently announced that powerboats retail unit sales were up an estimated 4 percent in 2018. Approximately 280,000 new powerboats were sold in 2018. A continued growth of 3 - 4% increase is expected for new powerboat retail sales. The NMMA also reported an estimated 998,000 pre-owned boats (powerboats, personal watercraft and sailboats) were sold in 2018 which is the highest pre-woned boat unit sales since 2006. Pre-owned sales totaled an estimated $9.7 billion, an increase of 2 percent for 2017.
