NOTES AND TALKING POINTS

Effective April 1, 2021, a new U.S. Coast Guard law requires vessel operators to use either a helm or outboard lanyard or wireless ECOS on certain vessels less than 26 feet when traveling on plane or above displacement speed. These vessels include boats with a functioning engine cutoff device installed at the helm or on an outboard engine or have wireless ECOS, or boats manufactured beginning January 2020. The Coast Guard increased the number of boats required to have ECOS installed after this date to reduce boating accidents and fatalities. Read more about this law and its exceptions on the Coast Guard News website.

Volvo Penta's Assisted Docking feature is a new boat docking system that compensates for external elemental forces and allows more straightforward navigation in tight areas with higher precision. Combining automation with control provides an ease to seasoned boaters and beginners learning how to dock a boat. Read more about the next generation of marine automation.
