The roots of MarineMax date back over 40 years, but the story starts when President and CEO Bill McGill moved his family to Florida to turn his lifelong passion into what would become the world’s largest boat retailer. It was the start of thousands of family memories, all centered on the water.
Later, he along with a group of America’s leading boat retailers, decided the boating industry was in need of change. By uniting companies they could maximize efficiency of operations while sharing best practices on everything from insurance to mobile boat-servicing, and allow team members to focus on what’s important: getting customers out on the water. This new approach became MarineMax. What made this possible? They were United by Water.
In 1998, MarineMax, Inc. started with 28 locations. Today, it has 55 locations nationwide. "Our focus is and always will be on customers and team members. We are in the people business. Our business can be summarized by saying we have a passionate team focused on delivering superior products to our customers, teaching them how to use them, servicing our customers second to none, and showing them how to have fun with their families by enjoying the boating lifestyle,” said McGill.
